Oh, the joy and satisfaction in his heart. His friends will be here soon. He had to call her and tell her it was over. The deed was done and one more to go then he wins the four hundred thousand naira bet.

                   ***how it all began

   Tobenna had just proposed to his girlfriend he loved and had dated for three years. Chidimma was her name but he called her Mma. The day after the proposal, he was on a night out with his friends where they teased him that he would be out of the market soon…all married and no more excess fun.

 “see guys let me tell you…. there’s still more time to have fun for me oo. I’m getting married to Mma next year so I still have like a year to have all the fun I want.

   “are you sure you still have time; how many women do you want to smack before next year…lover boy like you” Jimmy teased him and they all laughed.

This made Tobby feel bad. He wanted to prove to his friends that he was far more than what they taught of him so he asked for a challenge.

They laughed more at his stupid response for a challenge…. then Jude spoke up

  “okay guys let’s try him…just six…date six different girls before your wedding…. each for three months and you must break up with them on the third month”

Tobenna agreed to it ignoring the continuous teasing from jimmy. They betted a hundred thousand each and toasted to Tobenna’s victory.

   Having succeeded at dating and breaking the hearts of four girls already, Carol was the fifth. One more to go and then he wins the bet.

 She couldn’t believe what she just heard…she loves Tobenna so much. He came into her life after a devastating break up with her ex-boyfriend promising to love and cherish her, saying he wasn’t like the rest, she had believed, accepted and loved Tobenna.

Maybe he was joking about this call…she said to herself and rushing to dress up, she took off to his place.

 

  ***Two hours later

“odogwu na the game (great game master) …. odogwu na the game” Tobby’s friend Amaobi hailed him and the others followed suit.

    “yes oo…one more to go” he bragged

    “so, like this now…guy you don shock us’’ Jude chipped

     “like seriously…” jimmy added “abeg how you take do am”

    “it’s easy … just one step at a time you guys doubted me before abi” Tobby replied feeling himself

Caroline was at the door. She arrived fifty-five minutes ago and had heard everything they said. She couldn’t stop the tears that flooded her eyes…so it was all a game. All this while, she was inside a game of chess while Tobby and his friends were the chess players. After contemplating whether to knock or leave, she decided to knock

    “what are you doing here? Tobenna asked shocked to see her when he opened the door.

    “Tobby you are evil…. God will punish you” she said and ran off

 His friends asked him who was at the door…

“the usual” he replied and they all laughed

While walking and crying on the road, Carol called her best friend Adanna and narrated everything to her in tears…

 “don’t worry Carol…I’m coming over to your place right now…no one messes with my bestie and goes away with it” Adanna replied from the other end

  “I have a plan….” She added and hung up
