Who is a Front-end software developer?


A frontend developer is a professional who uses HTML, CSS and JAVASCRIPT to design and build the visual and interactive elements of websites and applications that users and visitors engage directly with.


They make sure the website is responsive across all devices and visually appealing for users and visitors.


Some features like menu bars, buttons and animations we see and interact with on websites are created by front end developers.


Frontend developers can also be called frontend engineers.


The role of a Front-end software developer?


Front-end developer roles includes but are not limited to the following:


  1. Creating the user interface of a website to ensure it looks good and is easy to use. With intentional skills on design principles and user experience.

  2. Working closer with designers, backend developers and project managers to meet and satisfy clients needs and user experience.


Languages used for front-end development 


Unlike backend development that has a lot of languages, frontend development involves three basic languages: HTML, CSS and JAVASCRIPT.


HTML: this stands for hypertext mark-up language. It is seen as the skeleton of the website. That is, the foundation of the website. Every information you want to be on your website will be integrated first on your html.


CSS: this stands for cascading styles sheets. This is the language that beautifies the website and gives it an appealing look. Including animations, colors, text fonts etc


JAVASCRIPT: is the programming language that takes charge of the website's interactivity.


Skills required of a frontend Developer 


  1. Understanding the main technologies which are HTML, CSS and JAVASCRIPT

  2. Knowing how these technologies can affect your user experience.

  3. Understanding version control systems like git and github

  4. Mastering responsive design. Know how designs can work on different screen sizes.

  5. Understanding the basics of UX (user experience) principle.

  6. Being good at and knowing how SEO (search Engine Optimization) works

  7. Understanding the basics of RESTful APIs and how to consume them.

  8. Implementing testing and debugging practices effectively

  9. Mastering developer tools for inspecting and  optimization of code.

  10. Having a go-to frontend framework like react.js or vue.js

  11. Good communication, problem solving, attention to details and team work skills

  12. Understanding the performance optimization of web and important web vitals.
