lifestyle(a short story)- ''the girl I've always wanted to be"
It was a Saturday morning. As I spread the clothes I had watched on the hanger at the backyard of our two-storied commercial apartment, I heard the loud laughter from the other side of the compound. That laughter was familiar. I didn’t need anyone to tell me it was her, Adanna, the girl her family just moved in few months ago. They lived at the second-floor of the building while ours was at the first floor.
Adanna had the teenage dream life. You know like in the movies. She was the first child of a family of three children. Her siblings a boy and a girl, Ebuka and Mmachi. Her father worked in an oil company and drove the latest Benz while her mum was a lecturer at Godfrey Okoye private university here in Enugu city where we stayed. We attended the same high school. Adanna wasn’t just pretty she was also intelligent and smart. She only started school at sky Ville high few months ago but everyone including the teachers were familiar with her. Not that I was jealous of her or anything but I just admired her demeanor a lot. And sometimes I wish I was like her.
But before Adanna, who was I? after all they just packed in few months ago. Alright my name is ‘’Somadina” Soma for short. I have five siblings two brothers and three sisters. I am the third child of the family. My father works as a pharmacist at the states clinic while mom has a boutique where she sales women’s wear. I’ve always come top of my class since fourth grade and I’ve had just one bestie since fourth grade Ifeoma she was more like a sister to me. I sure wasn’t satisfied with all these things, was I?
“hello soma” I heard Adanna greet as she approached where I was “hi Ada” I replied wondering how she knew my name since we haven’t spoken since the day they moved in. “can I give you a helping hand? She offered ‘’its okay Ada this is easy stuff for me” I declined. “all right soma I actually brought
